I have chosen Pablo Picasso because I think he is a brilliant artist, I find his work very interesting and odd, that is why I like him because his work stands out. I have chosen this painting called the Weeping Woman which was painted in 1937, The Weeping Woman was based on the woman he loved called Dora Maar it was also heavily influenced by the spanish civil war. The reason why I chose this painting is because I find it very interesting and great to view, it has also taught me new ways to draw and to be more creative. The colours in the image are light and calming which brings the image out more and there is minimal detail in the image which i find amazing because there is still so much to look at.

Modernism and Edit PostsPost-Modernism
Modernism and post modernism have two different meanings. Modernism started in the 19th century and it revolutionised the way artists painted, how paintings were conceived, what they were depicting and the techniques they used. Modernism is used in a wide range of art not just painting or drawings it is also used in architecture, music, advertisements and even literature. Post-modernism came about in the mid 20th century it is considered to be against modernism, it is completely different in a way of thinking. Post-Modernism artists see art in a different light and can express them selfs more. Apparently the first piece of post-modenism art was pop art, there is also other arts like conceptual art, neo-exressionism art and also feminist feminist, I personally like post-mordernism art I think it is very interesting to look at, I think pop art is my favourite because it is very bright, colourful and fun to look at.

Leonard De Vinci
I have chosen Leonard De Vinci because I think his work is amazing, the detail he puts into his work and the dark colours he used I found very interesting. I have chosen The Mona Lisa because this is one of his most famous pieces of work and it is a good example for the detail and the dark colours he has used for this painting. He could of painted her bright and colourful with a light background, if he did paint her like that it wold not have as much impacted as it does now. I think The Mona Lisa is one of he most amazing pieces of art I have ever seen, I personally think it is absolutely beautiful and inspiring.
Ed Fella
Ed Fella was born in 1938 he is a well known graphic designer, he is also a teacher and an artist. He had also had a huge influence on contemporary typography. He has received an MFA in graphic design which he received in 1987 from Cranbrook Academy of Arts, he has also won awards from Chrysler in 1997 and Fella also got an honorary doctorate from the CCS in 1999. Ed Fella has become an art teacher and has also been publishing his own work. You can go and see some of his work in a museum called the National Design Museum located in New York City. I think his work is amazing it is very colourful, bright and I think inspiring. The amount of detail he puts into his work and the colours he uses is brilliant there is not to much to look at though but this makes me like his work more. I personally would love to go to New York to see his work in person see the detail and dedication he has put into his work.

Neville Brody
I chose Neville Brody because I find his work very interesting. Some of his work looks so simple but it shows so much detail, in his work he is a perfectionist and there is not a piece of work that i have seen that does not show the perfection in his work. This image I have chosen is very colourful but calm because of the soft colours that has been used in the picture. The image is an album cover for the V&A one hundred and fiftieth anniversary, the message could mean anything it could mean that you don't have to live your life like it is one big plan.

I personally think her work is brilliant, she has came a long way most people won't be able to come as far as she has, she is an inspiration to a lot of people. I think her style of work it is very modern but with a touch of old fashion style which i think is amazing and very interesting

Vincent Van Gogh
Dickins, R. (2006), The Usborne Art Treasury
I have always found Vincent Van Gogh's work very interesting, he is more famous now than when he was alive, he is also famous for cutting his ear off after arguing with one of his friends, it is understandable why he did that because he had a mental illness. Some people think he is just a crazy man who could paint but to me I think he was an amazing artist and his work was amazing the way he paints his work and how the colours complement each other. The image that i have chosen is Starry Night this is one of my favourite paintings by Vincent Van Gogh. when i look at the painting it always makes me feel more relaxed and calm because of the scenery and the calm colours. Van Gogh said "looking at the stars makes me dream" from Dickins, R. (2006), The Usborne Art Treasury. I agree with him stars can make you dream and they can also inspire you which i think they did when he painted Starry Night.

Semiotics
Signs
Semiotics means that it is a sign or an image that doesn't need words to explain what it is and how it works, road and street signs are a big example of what a semiotic is, they are everywhere you go they are even on your clothing you just don't take notice of it and how useful it really is, if there was no sign on a toilet door telling you that it is a toilet or which is female or male you wouldn't use it because you wont know that it is there or which one to use or if a road sign was put into words not an image you wouldn't be able to read it in time because you are driving, these two examples showing how important semiotics really is, it doesn't have to be a picture to know what an object is you can take an everyday object like chair and show it to someone and they would know what it is and what it is used for, they wouldn't need writing to explain what it is and how it works this example proves how useful semiotics really is.
Tim Burton
This is one of Tim Burtons films called The Nightmare Before Christmas, he is very famous for his films like Beetlejuice which was created in 1988 and one of his recent films Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street which was created in 2007, Tim Burton is my favourite film maker and animator he was the person who inspired me to become an artist, his films is unique, dark and strange and they always keep you on the edge of your seat, all of the characters in his films have their own unique style and personality which gives you a better understanding of the film, Tim Burton's work always look and sound scary but their not most of his films are heart warming and they have a little humour to keep the viewers happy.
Identity
Identity is the most important thing about somebody it is what separates us from everyone else it shows us that you exist, if you didn't have an identity you wouldn't get anywhere in life, you need your identity for everything like going on holiday you couldn't get on a plain if you didn't have any identification or get a job because they need to know who you are, most people obsess over what they look like people would go to great lengths to change there appearance because they are not happy with the way they look , when people go to these lengths to change the way they look it is almost like their completely changing their identity, there are more simple ways of changing the way you look without going to great lengths you can use make up which can change the way people look and feel about them selves there are also people that have to cover them selves up because of there religion but they will always have an identity.

Banksy
The Sweeper
I have always loved Banksy's work, what I like the most is that the world is his canvas and the way he uses objects on the street for his paintings i.e windows and double yellow lines, which I think is amazing that he is using objects from the street for his art work. There is big problems using the streets as your canvas is that there are people who will vandalise his work i.e the painting "Mild Mild West" was vandalised on 6th of April 2009 by a group called Appropriate Media. It really annoys me why people have to destroy a work of art I think if you don't like it say something don't destroy it.There has been many exhibitions of his work and copies of his work sold, the first exhibition was held on the 19th of July 2002 in Los Angeles, Banksy never hosted the exhibitions as he is an anonymous artist, which I think is brilliant how he has kept his identity from the public what I like most about him hiding his identity is that he could have been at all of his exhibitions and no one would know.
