Banksy

The Sweeper

I have always loved Banksy's work, what I like the most is that the world is his canvas and the way he uses objects on the street for his paintings i.e windows and double yellow lines, which I think is amazing that he is using objects from the street for his art work. There is big problems using the streets as your canvas is that there are people who will vandalise his work i.e the painting "Mild Mild West" was vandalised on 6th of April 2009 by a group called Appropriate Media. It really annoys me why people have to destroy a work of art I think if you don't like it say something don't destroy it.There has been many exhibitions of his work and copies of his work sold, the first exhibition was held on the 19th of July 2002 in Los Angeles, Banksy never hosted the exhibitions as he is an anonymous artist, which I think is brilliant how he has kept his identity from the public what I like most about him hiding his identity is that he could have been at all of his exhibitions and no one would know.

  1. Good that you have started your blog. Some would argue that Banksy work is graffiti or at least he uses the 'language' of graffiti therefore it is only right that his work would be covered up by other graffiti. Perhaps the fact that he exhibits in galleries and sells his work for cast sums is a sell-out and he can no longer claim to be a graffiti artist, or indeed a subversive artist. I would love to see you problematise Banksy's work or think about why others might vandalise an artists work. Try using other texts about Banksy. Why not read this recent article and comment on it? http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/08/voina-banksy-penis-prize
